The most common MVP mistake is not building too little — it is building too much. Months of runway disappear into admin panels, settings screens and edge cases while the core idea remains unvalidated. A good MVP answers one question: will people use and pay for this?

Scope to One Core Journey

Define the single path that proves your idea — for example: sign up, create a request, get a result, pay. Everything outside that journey is a candidate for a spreadsheet, a manual process or a later release.

Features That Can Usually Wait

  • Native apps when a responsive web app can validate the idea first
  • Complex role and permission systems
  • Custom dashboards and analytics — start with the data you actually check
  • Integrations beyond the one or two your first users need

Choose Boring Technology

Proven frameworks, managed hosting and off-the-shelf authentication and payments get you to market faster and are easier for any future developer to maintain. Novel stacks are a tax paid monthly.

Plan Security Early

Security is far cheaper at design time than after a breach — and increasingly, enterprise customers and investors ask about it before signing. Sensible defaults (encrypted data, least-privilege access, tested backups) cost little when planned from day one.

Ship, Then Listen

Put the MVP in front of real users in weeks, not quarters. Their behaviour — not your roadmap — should decide the next build cycle. Budget for two or three iterations after launch; that is where the product is actually found.
